The standards of ALL workman was very high. The builders turned up on time every day. On the one occasion when no one was on site, we were told in advance. Communication with the builders was excellent, using an app which enabled all messages to be captured. SJL liaised with building control and ensured that approval was gained with no hassle for us.

Meet the founders
SAM - Founder/Carpenter

Sam – Founder & Carpenter
Sam began his carpentry apprentiship in London at 19, working in shop fitting on high-end commercial projects including Nando’s, Hotel du Vin and ASK. Working closely with designers meant delivery bespoke, precision-built fittings to exacting standards.
Carpentry runs in the blood. As a fourth-generation carpenter from a trade background, Sam grew up building skate ramps and tree houses, always drawn to making and problem-solving through craft.
After three years in the commercial sector, Sam decided to go out on his own and co-founded SJL at 22 with a clear focus on quality fromand execution.
Today, Sam leads projects with an emphasis on organisation, transparency and delivering a consistently high standard from start to finish.
Rick – Co-Founder & Carpenter
Rick knew from the age of six that he wanted to be a carpenter. By 12, he was already on a pre-apprenticeship, leaving school two days a week to learn the trade hands-on.
He began his full apprenticeship at 15, qualifying by 21 before going out on his own. With years of site experience behind him, Rick brings deep respect for proper construction, strong work ethic and pride in doing things right the first time.
